23/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - In an address to the Spring Summit, the European Confederation of Trade Unions (ETUC) is requesting that the Spring Council: endorse the EP's vote on the services directive; draws up a road map for social justice and decent working conditions; approves the European Pact for Gender Equality; rejects an economic model that tolerates 20 million unemployed. The European Social Platform NGO calls for: an annual social report to assess how the Lisbon strategy could promote the EU social protection and inclusions objectives; “stop the race to the bottom on social standards and fiscal policies, move from competition to coordination in the social field, join forces at the international level and shape globalisation instead do sustaining its negative impact”.
