Brussels, 23/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - Russia will soon be signing several agreements on concrete cooperation with Europol and other European organisations, the vice-president of the European Commission, Franco Frattini, announced in Moscow on 22 March. In the context of application of the common area for freedom, security and justice signed between the EU and Russia in 2005, several agreements are due to be sealed between Russia and Europol, Eurojust and Frontex as well as the European Observatory for Drugs and Drug Addiction, Franco Frattini said. The Commissioner stressed the importance of real cooperation between Russia and the European Union in many fields, such as the fight against illegal immigration and the regulation of legal migration flows. The signing of the readmission agreement and the facilitation of visas initialled in October 2005 (EUROPE 9049) is expected to be concluded by the next EU/Russia Summit at the end of May. The question of a visa-free system will be discussed at the High Level EU/Russia group.
