Parliament to debate mergers on Wednesday

Brussels, 10/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - There has been a slight change to the European Parliament's agenda for next week (see EUROPE 9140) to include statements by the Commission and Council on Wednesday afternoon mergers in the single market (the Enel/Suez/Gaz de France, Endesa/E.ON deals) after debate on the Gymnich ministerial meeting and debate on the Brok Report on the EU's enlargement strategy.

On Tuesday afternoon rather than Thursday, the European Parliament will debate an oral question by Enrique Baron, President of the European Parliament's International Trade Committee, on the European footwear market one year into liberalisation (the debate scheduled on Tuesday on the European Commission's annual policy strategy has been cancelled).

The debate on Thursday afternoon on human rights violations in the world will focus on impunity in Africa (especially the Hissene Habre case), Kazakhstan and human rights in Moldova and Transnistria.
