03/03/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Austrian Presidency and the European Commission held a conference in Vienna on 2 and 3 March on 'Content for Competitiveness - Strengthening the European Creative Industries in the Light of the i2010 Strategy'. Austrian minister Frank Morak told reports that culture and competitiveness, and culture and the economy were not 'antinomic' and it was important to look at structural changes required by creative industries if they are to have the role they deserve. At the same press conference, EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes said competition policy was a key element, as way competitiveness. She said they would both play a significant role in the i2010 strategy. She said she wanted to concentrate resources and stakeholders and issued a wake-up call to Europe.
