27/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - In the conclusions adopted without debate on 27 February, the External Relations Council noted “with concern that the security situation in Darfur (Sudan) remained serious”. It is therefore calling on the different sides in the conflict to “respect the cease-fire and urgently, and in good faith, pursue negotiations at Abuja under the guidance of the African Union”. The Council also reaffirmed the Union's commitment to bringing continued support to the African Union (AU), politically and financially as well as in military and police domains of the Support Mission to the AU mission in Sudan (AMIS). The Council provided assurances that the EU would AU and UN to achieve an efficient and problem-free transition towards a UN operation, in compliance with the agreement laid down by the UA Peace and Security Council.
