27/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - Adopting the opinion of Theodoros Georgakis (PES, Greece), entitled "i2010- An information society for growth and employment" at its February plenary session, the Committee of the Regions (CoR) has called for clarification regarding the funding of this initiative and for guaranteed broadband access (which will be highly beneficial to the extremely remote regions), the wealth of digital content and interoperability, security for the transactions necessary to allocate resources from the structural funds and research and development programmes, according to a press release. The Committee adds that action programmes and financial resources provided for in this context should be managed at regional and local level, in order to ensure that the infrastructure and services set up will improve the standard of living for the citizens in the regions in question.
