Brussels, 23/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Justice and Interior Ministers of the 25 adopted a regulation on 21 February providing for a ban on visas a freeze of all financial assets of persons suspected by the UN “of involvement in planning, funding, organising or carrying out the bomb attack which killed 23 people, including Rafik Hariri, on 14 February 2005”. This regulation, which was approved by the European Parliament in January(EUROPE 9112), includes for the moment a blank list. The names of persons and organisations concerned will automatically be entered when the UN, which has set up an enquiry into the killing, names those responsible. In a progress report, the UN enquiry collected “converging evidence” of the involvement of Syrian and Lebanese security services in the murder of the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and confirmed that Damascus did not cooperate in its investigations.
