23/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - A press release from the Socialist Group of the European Parliament indicates that the Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gzurcsany, following a meeting in Budapest on Thursday with the President of the Group Martin Schulz, has stressed that it is in the European Union's interests to implement the European Constitution (we should recall that Hungary became on 20 December 2004 the second country in the EU after Lithuania to ratify the Constitution). The Hungarian Prime Minister is “a young dynamic leader, and if he argues for the constitution now, it could be very useful in this period of reflection”, said Mr Schulz. The press release also notes that the Hungarian Prime Minister congratulated the Socialist Group on their contribution to the compromise on the services directive in the first reading vote on the Gebhardt report. According to the press release, Mr Gzurcsany said: “With all my heart, I support this compromise. We must accept that Europe is built on wise compromises”.
