Brussels, 23/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - Following the favourable opinion of the European Parliament (EUROPE 9093), the JHA Council adopted two decisions on 21 February in the area of asylum, aiming to extend the application of the regulations Dublin II and Eurodac to Denmark, and on the conclusion of an agreement protocol with Iceland and Norway on the criteria and mechanisms to determine the state responsible for examining a request for asylum submitted in a Member State, in Iceland or in Norway. The Council also decided to begin negotiations with Australia with a view to an agreement on the transmission of personal data between Europol and that country. Elsewhere, the resignation of the deputy Director of Europol Jens Henrik Højbjerg, dated 1 September 2006, was accepted by the Council.
