Suspected H5N1 virus in French turkeys - Slovakia eighth EU country to be hit by avian flu

Brussels, 23/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - France informed the European Commission on 23 February of a possible case of the H5N1 virus in a turkey farm in the department of Ain (near Lyon). If confirmed this will involve the first EU farm to be infected by avian flu in the EU. On the same day, Germany withdrew its suspicions of a duck farm which had first tested positive.
