Brussels, 10/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - As we announced (EUROPE 9127), the High Representative of the EU for CFSP, Javier Solana, will visit several Arab countries from 13 to 16 February in order to calm the tension created by the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed (see other article). First of all, Mr Solana will visit Saudi Arabia, where talks are planned with King Abdullah and foreign affairs Minister Saud Al-Faisal, and also with the Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu. Mr Solana will then travel to Cairo, Egypt, for talks with President Hosni Moubarak, foreign affairs Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit and with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Amre Moussa. In Egypt, Mr Solana will visit the Al Azhar University and its Grand Imam, Sheikh Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi. The following stage of the journey will take Mr Solana to Jordan, where he will be met by King Abdullah II and foreign affairs Minister Abdelelah Al-Khatib. In the Palestinian Territories, Mr Solana will then meet the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas. His journey will finish in Israel with a meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. In Palestine and Israël, Mr Solana will of course discuss the situation in the wake of the Palestinian elections of 25 January.
