Mr Pöttering stressed the need to recognise the role of the Parliament in inter-institutional negotiations on the 2007-2013 financial perspective (and also on the “services” directive), said a press release, which indicated too that Mr Molterer had specifically raised the question of subsidiarity. The other main themes were the fight against terrorism and insecurity in the EU (with contributions from Jaime Mayor Oreja and Liese Prokop for the Austrian Presidency), globalisation (with interventions from MEPs Joao de Deus Pinheiro and Thomas Mann) , the borders of Europe (the Chair of the EP's Foreign Affairs Committee Elmar Brok explained his initiative to define a “European Economic Space plus” for neighbouring countries, but without going as far as accession and Commissioner Franco Frattini brought everyone up to date on migration policy), as well as employment and growth (with Commissioner Jacques Barrot).
