Agricultural income falls 6.6% in 2005

Brussels, 07/02/2006 (Agence Europe) - According to the first estimates published on 27 January by Eurostat, agricultural income per labour unit was down in 2005, by 6.6% in the European Union, following an increase of 7.2% in 2004. End December last, Eurostat was tabling on a rise of just under 6.3%. Agricultural income evolved in the South and the North of the EU, with decreases of between -5% and -19% in the South (namely Hungary, Slovakia, Spain, Portugal, Slovenia, France, Italy and Austria) versus increases of more than 5% in the Baltic States, Ireland and the Netherlands, and pronounced changes in the other Member States (between -4.9% in Germany and +4% in the Czech Republic). In 2005, the production value of the “agriculture” section fell by 8.4% in real terms. This fall affects not only crops (-12.2%) but also animal production (-4.5%).
