25/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - On 25 January, the European Commission decided to authorise Hungary to pay EUR 67.6 million in aid to the mining company, Vertesi Erömü Rt. The company in question will use this amount to cover the difference between the cost of production costs for its coal and the sales price it can achieve for it. The Commission, moreover, has decided that the fixed feed-in tariffs for coal that Hungary has imposed upon the state-owned electricity undertaking MVM in the years 2004 and 2005 did constitute State aid, which is compatible with the common market. The Commission had already, in June 2005, approved the plan for restructuring the Hungarian coal industry for the years 2004 to 2010.
