Brussels, 25/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - On the eve of Palestinian elections on 25 January, British Conservative Edward McMillan-Scott, who heads the European Parliament observer delegation, hoped the electoral process would be of a quality comparable to that of presidential elections one year ago (in addition to this 27-member mission, the EU has an observer mission headed by MEP Véronique de Keyser, Belgian Socialist). MEPs on the spot have met candidates from all lists and, after the meeting with candidates of Hamas, Pasqualina Napoletano (PES, Italy) noted that their determination to continue the fight against their occupiers seemed to be clearly accompanied by a willingness to take part in the democratic life of the new Palestinian institutions.
