THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/training/future of europe

25/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - Luxembourg's Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker was appointed president of the International Centre for European Training (CIFE), on 22 November in Nice. He thus succeeds Michel Albert, member of the institute and permanent secretary of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences. After his election, Juncker addressed the seminar organised for the 60th anniversary of the UN by the European Institute of Advanced International Studies, in which he said that Europe is going through a deep, structural, constitutional and financial crisis which, according to a CIFE press release, he says, “has not fallen out of the blue”. After the French and Dutch no-votes to the European Constitution, Juncker considered it essential to develop European external action able to reconcile Europe with its citizens and to give them back “legitimate internal pride”.
