25/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has authorised plans by the Israeli company Teva Pharmaceutical Industries to buy the American company Ivax Corporation. Both companies are active in the field or of generic medicines. The Commission examined the five pharmaceutical markets on which both parties operate and have a market share greater than 15%, and the 10 active substance markets on which one or the other of the parties has a market share greater than 25% and on which the other party uses the active substance in question in its products. It noted that the increase in market share would be very limited, and concluded that the operation would not hinder effective competition.
