European Commission authorises changes to French aid scheme to promote less polluting transport

Brussels, 10/11/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has given the French authorities the go-ahead to modify an aid scheme, that it had authorised in March 2003, to limit greenhouse gas emissions caused by transport activities. The French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) may thus grant aid until 2007 within the initial budget (maximum EUR 22 million per year). Measures proposed for reviewing the organisation of transport and the development of clean and fuel-saving vehicles will continue to receive aid and will concern individuals as well as enterprise. “The action planned by France will make all types of transport more environmentally friendly and will contribute to our goal of making sustainable mobility a key element in quality of life”, Commissioner Jacques Barrot commented in a press release on Wednesday.
