Brussels, 27/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The International Human Rights Federation FIDH has released a report entitled: 'Counter-Terrorism Measures and Human Rights, Keys for Compatibility' denouncing violations of human rights law by counter-terrorism measures. The FIDH stresses that the best way to respond to terrorism can be found within the democratic rule of law and urges UN Member States to urgently finalise the draft United Nations convention to give a full, clear definition of terrorism and to involve civil society in the work of the UN's Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC), adopted under UN Resolution 1373 (2001). The FIDH says the CTC must be proactive and work with the Special Reporter on counter-terrorism and human rights and the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights to ensure countries respect their international human rights obligations.
