Brussels, 14/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - In a press release the President of the “Social Economy” intergroup in the EP Philippe Busquin rails against the Commission's decision to withdraw the proposal on a European mutual statute as part of its initiative on better legislation. At a time when the services directive is being discussed, it is very negative not to try to make progress on “a European mutual project, a model of solidarity and organisation of services to the citizens in many countries”, says the Belgian socialist. In his view, the Commission should understand that such a decision does not strengthen "the social dimension, which is more necessary than ever in European construction”. The EP committee on social affairs will have the matter referred to it at our initiative, the MEP warned.
