Public hearing of GUE/NGL group

Brussels, 14/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European United Left/Nordic Green Left (EUL/NGL) group of the European Parliament is to hold a public hearing on the European social model on 19 and 20 October in London, several days ahead of the Hampton Court Summit. This is a debate launched by Tony Blair on a theme on which the British Prime Minister is “tempted to cite the experience of his own country as an example, a communication says. Under the chairmanship of Francis Wurtz who is President of the EUL group, the meeting will bring together trade union leaders, UK parliamentarians and experts, who will talk about their experiences and analyses. In particular, they will tackle the following themes: 1) the place of health in the European social model; 2) “the third way” and the European social model; 3) public services, the example of the British railways; 4) the place of the retirement system in the European social model.
