14/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved the proposed acquisition of Spain's Dalphi car airbag and steering wheel business by TRW, the US automotive component manufacturer. TRW designs, manufactures and markets automotive components, including braking and steering systems, engine valves, airbags, steering wheels and electronic controls. DME designs, manufactures and markets automotive safety systems, in particular airbags and steering wheels. TRW and Dalphi are both active in the markets for car safety systems, specific to car manufacturers, where the acquisition will strengthen TRW's established position. Except in the market for steering wheels, where the new entity will become the market leader, the new TRW will continue to face Autoliv as a stronger competitor, along with Takata, Delphi, KSS and Toyoda Gosei.
