Brussels, 12/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Commission on Wednesday sent reasoned opinions to Belgium, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Slovenia for failure to respect directive 2000/59/EC (OJ L 332 of 28.12.2000), which is designed to enhance the availability and use of port reception facilities for ship-generated waste and cargo residues in order to reduce jettisoning in the sea. The States singled out were supposed to draw up their plans for receiving and treating waste for all of their ports, including fishing and recreational ports, by 27 December 2002. These plans are vital in order to ensure that these installations meet the real needs of vessels and that the fees charged for their use are fair, non-discriminatory and transparent.
