Brussels, 13/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Commission will not give its verdict on the turnover of the Spanish firm Endesa this week, a spokesperson for Commissioner Neelie Kroes, adding that it could come next week, but is "very complicated". The Commission's analysis will determine the designation of the competent competition authority to examine the purchase of the company by its compatriot Gas Natural. If less than two thirds of Endesa's turnover comes from Spain, Gas Natural would have to notify the European Commission, which would examine the impact of the merger on the Community energy market. Otherwise, the Spanish competition authorities can analyse the effects of the takeover bid on the domestic market there. Although the deadline for the Member States to ask the Commission to examine the validity of the offer on their national markets expired on Thursday evening, the spokesperson confirmed that only two requests for an examination had been received, from Portugal and Italy (EUROPE 9047). The Commission has until 27 October to respond to these requests.
