Hungary awaiting Council recommendations on its excess deficit - Cohesion Fund aid may be suspended

Luxembourg. 11/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - As expected, awaiting the European Commission's report (expected to be published on 20 October) on Hungary's excess budget, the EU's economics and finance ministers postponed their decision on Hungary's measures to correct its deficit in 2005 (see Europe 9044). Back in 2004, the Council first noted Hungary's 5.3% excess deficit. The measures subsequently taken to deal with it proved insufficient (see Europe 8869) so the Council reiterated its concern...
