Brussels, 11/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - At the Liverpool (UK) conference on the Television Without Frontier (TWF) directive (EUROPE 9034), the UER (Union europeenne de radiotelevision) supported the idea of a modulated regulatory approach based on technological neutrality to preserve public interest objectives without preventing the development of new broadcasting media. Public service broadcasters respect established values, including for new services, explains the UER in a press release, adding that they are supported by national policy-makers and therefore get powerful and can drag the entire system, including their private sector competitors, to provide better services to the public. The role of public service broadcasting is vital for developing an information society and must continue to be on all new broadcasting platforms, argues Jean Reveillon, UER Secretary General.
