10/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Union's High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, has congratulated Mohammed El-Baradei, who has won the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize (see EUROPE 9044). In his letter of 7 October to the IAEA Director General, Solana writes: “This is a just reward for a sustained effort over many years to promote and safeguard the peaceful use of nuclear energy and is a recognition of the key role played by the Agency in fostering greater peace and stability among nations”. Speaking of the work of “incalculable importance” done by the IAEA, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also congratulated Mohammed El-Baradei.
