Brussels, 27/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - According to the latest statistics from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), the European light commercial vehicle market (less than 3.5 tonnes) has experienced a 3.7% fall in July 2005 (corresponding to 151,644 fewer vehicles) compared to July 2004. This drop, however, was compensated by a rise of 3.9% in August (+115,632 vehicles compared to July 2004). During the first eight months of 2005, this market experienced an overall increase of 5.3%, which currently represents a pool of 1.354,818 vehicles. ACEA did comment, however, that these results should be treated cautiously, as July, overall, included fewer working days than August. ACEA also pointed out that between July 2004 and July 2005 the markets developed very differently from one country to the next: Spain, for example, chalked up a 10.7% increase, whereas the Netherlands experienced a fall of 84.2%. Heavy commercial vehicles of more than 16 tonnes saw very robust growth in the summer. July and August 2005 both saw increases in comparison to July 2004, with + 5.5% (+20,120 vehicles) and +11.8% (+17,083 vehicles) respectively.
