16/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 6 September, the Commission adopted its common position on modifying directive 1999/62/EC on the taxation of vehicles for using certain infrastructures. The Belgian, Estonian, Portuguese and Maltese delegations all voted against, and the Finnish and Greek delegations abstained. On 9 September, the Council formally rejected the amendments at second reading of the European Parliament to the proposed directive on driving and rest time for professional drivers, and to the proposed regulation on driving time and bringing in a digital tachograph. This means that conciliation proceedings will have to be opened.
