Eurozone and EU25 annual inflation 2.2%

Brussels, 16/09/2005 (Agence Europe) - Euro-zone annual inflation was 2.2% in August 2005, unchanged compared to July. A year earlier the rate was 2.3%. Monthly inflation was 0.3% in August. EU25 annual inflation was 2.2% in August 2005, up from 2.1% in July. A year earlier the rate was 2.3%. Monthly inflation was 0.2% in August. In August 2005, the lowest annual rates were observed in Finland and Sweden (both 1.0%), the Czech Republic (1.4%) and Cyprus (1.5%), and the highest rates were recorded in Latvia (6.3%), Luxembourg (4.3%), Estonia (4.2%) and Greece (3.6%). Compared with July 2005, annual inflation rose in fifteen Member States, remained stable in five and fell in five. The components with the highest annual rates in August 2005 were housing (5.1%), transport (4.8%) and alcohol and tobacco (4.3%), while the lowest annual rates were observed for communication (-2.1%), clothing (-0.8%) and recreation and culture (-0.1%). The main components with the highest monthly rates were transport (0.6%) and recreation and culture (0.5%), and the lowest were food (-0.3%), health and communication (both -0.1%).
