04/08/2005 (Agence Europe) - Josep Borrell, Parliament President, has expressed “shock” at the repression of the opposition demonstration in Egypt on 30 July in Cairo. In a press release, he denounces the “brutal attack by the Egyptian police on demonstrators”, amongst whom was Mr Kamal Abbas, leader of a trade union NGO, whom he had met in Egypt last March (on the occasion of the inaugural session of the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly). President Borrell, who welcomes the fact that the demonstrators arrested on this occasion were finally released, hoped that “the presidential electoral process will not be marred again by this kind of violence”.
