Strasbourg, 06/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - The British Attorney General approached the European Parliament with a request to lift the immunity related to the charge against Ashley Mote (independent, ex-UKIP) in relation to the alleged fraudulent payment of social benefits, as he had failed to declare his commercial interest in four companies. Although the British court to which the matter has been brought must, in its proceedings, "make sure that Mr Mote is able to take part in plenary sessions", the Parliament decided nonetheless to lift the immunity of the MEP, in accordance with the argument developed by German Christian Democrat Klaus-Heiner Lehne.
