Brussels, 30/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the inauguration of the public information centre, “InfEuropa schuman 14”, was held in the heart of the Brussels' European quarter (rue Archimède), attended by Javier Solana, the EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), and Margot Wallström, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for institutional relations and communication strategy. The initiative is the result of a joint action by the EU Council of Ministers and the European Commission. The centre will be managed by the Council in collaboration with the European Commission representation in Belgium. Conceived as a pole for interactive exchange between EU institutions and citizens, it will have an information and documentation desk, a conference room, a visitor reception service and an area for exhibitions and cultural events. Anyone can consult “InfEuropa schuman 14” services free of charge on European affairs. Visitors will also discover there one of the panels that used to cover the Atomium, a gift to the Council of the European Union from the City of Brussels. Furthermore, the public will have an opportunity to attend a preview of the exhibition “EU Posters 1970-2000”, a collection of posters produced mainly by the Commission in the last three decades of the 20th Century, lent for the occasion by the Archives of the City of Brussels.
