Brussels, 30/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has approved the proposed acquisition of Flender, a German producer of mechanical power transmission equipment (such as gears, geared motors and couplings by German technology group Siemens because it did not did not identify any serious threat to competition. The horizontal overlaps between the activities of Siemens and Flender are limited and that, for all products concerned, the combined firm will continue to face several strong, effective competitors with significant market shares. These include, amongst others, ABB, Alstom, Schneider, Danfoss, WEG, VEM and Emerson. The Commission also studied the vertical integration of Flender's gear businesses into Siemens' wind turbine, steam turbine and rolling stock equipment business but it concluded that there would be no risk of reduced competition in any of the markets
