Brussels 03/06/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament Legal Committee is expected to meet next Monday in Strasbourg, with President Josep Borrell in attendance, to examine a new proposal concerning the regulations applying to MEPs that is expected to be approved by COREPER in the evening of Friday to Saturday. This proposal - which involves monthly pay of 7,000 EUR with phasing out in the next Parliament, a pension system paid for by the MEP to the extent of one third and by the Parliament to the extent of two thirds, community taxation with a possibility of additional national taxation and reimbursement only of expenses truly incurred - has already been approved by the Conference of Chairs of the political groups at a private meeting on Thursday. A report from the legal committee could be drawn up very soon given adoption at the plenary session of 22-23 June in Brussels, which would allow definitive adoption of the regulations by the Council before the end of the Luxembourg Presidency.
