Commission launches consultation on application of financial instrument market directive

Brussels, 27/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is asking stakeholders to comment on a technical report by the Committee of European Securities Regulators (CESR) on application measures of Directive 2004/39/EC concerning financial instruments markets. The deadline for submitting responses is 17 July 2005. Comments concern organisational demands (Article 13) and conflicts of interest (Article 18), two areas covered by EU legislation. The consultation is the second part of a four-part process. The last two will take place in June, looking at technical implementation measures for Directive 2004/39/EC.

In the near future, the European Commission will unveil a draft amendment to the financial instrument markets directive and will be suggesting, probably in June or July this year, to postpone the date the directive must be applied, suggest Commission sources. This amendment has nothing to do with the current consultation process.
