Brussels, 27/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - On 26 May, the European Commission adopted a regulation to take account of the difficulties faced by small producers, particularly in the new Member States, in meeting the EU rules on the marking of eggs. L The new proposal suggests allowing eggs sold at local public markets of small producers with up to 50 laying hens to be exempt from compulsory marking of eggs, and for the name and agree of the producer to be displayed at the place of sale. The marking of fresh category A eggs became compulsory in the EU on 1 July 2004, with a derogation until 1 July 2005 for eggs sold at local public markets.
