Brussels, 27/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has cleared the acquisition by Vodafone of Clearwave, a holding company which has mobile telecommunications subsidiaries in the Czech Republic and Romania. Vodafone does not have a mobile telephony network nor does it offer mobile telephony services directly in the Czech Republic so the deal would not overlap with Oskar Mobil, explains the Commission. The provision of advance seamless pan-European services encompasses permanent roaming on a pan-European basis for customers seeking pan-European mobile voice and data/Internet services. At this stage, notes the Commission, most of these services are still country-specific in terms of price, contractual terms and legislation and even from a pan-European perspective, the acquisition will not significantly increase Vodafone's European footprint. Therefore the Commission found that the acquisition by Vodafone of Clearwave will not significantly impede competition.
