THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/constitution/france

24/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - MEP Anne Laperrouze (ALDE, France) is to appeal to French voters before the referendum on the Constitution. “On 29 May, the eyes of the whole of Europe that will be looking at France! Without France, there is hardly any future for this Constitution, and without the Constitution, France will lose the influence that it has put to good use in the construction of a more united Europe”, she said. She went on to proclaim: “There is no need to be afraid of the 448 articles. All you have to do is take out everything that is already in force by law and which will not change, even if the treaty is rejected. You can then focus on the 55 articles that are officially new which aim to give more democracy, transparency, efficiency and legitimacy to the functioning of the European institutions”.
