Brussels, 23/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission had forecast budget deficits for Italy of 3.6% in 2005 and 4.6% in 2006 before the publication by Eurostat of revised figures for 2003 and 2004, adjusting the deficit to 3.6% for both years. The European Statistical Office has been in consultation with Italy and refused to validate the figures released by Italy in March 2005 of a deficit of 2.9% in 2003 and 3% in 2004.
