Brussels, 19/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - Last week in Strasbourg, the European Parliament adopted the report by Ian Hudghton (Greens/EFA, Scotland) on the proposal for a directive aimed at consolidating the sixth VAT directive into a single text. In a concern for legal clarity, the European Commission included in a single text the 25 changes made to the Directive 77/388/EEC on a common system for value added tax. In particular, it will thus be easier to consult the list of services to which Member Sates can apply reduced rates (see EUROPE 8947). This consolidation does not entail any change to the rules in force. In a non-binding resolution, the EP approves the Commission's proposal without amendment.
