Brussels, 18/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - The meeting on 11 May between Peter Straub, president of the Committee of the Regions and Margot Wallström, Commission for inter-institutional relations and communication strategy, mainly aimed to underline the crucial role the Committee of the Regions plays as an intermediary in the dialogue between the European institutions and citizens. Peter Straub declared, “greater political involvement of local and regional governments would enable the EU to implement the best policies and laws”. Straub highlighted the role that representatives from the regional and local authorities could play in the new communication strategy the European Commission wanted to implement. At the end of the meeting, Mr Straub announced that the Committee of the Regions would soon be submitting a report to the Commission, which illustrated its advantages as a communication actor, in the contribution to the White Paper on the European Commission communication strategy.
