Brussels, 09/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - The theme of the Congress of European Farmers is “European farming in the world”. It takes place on 18-19 October 2005 at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The event will be organised by the Committee of Agricultural Organisations of the EU (Copa) and the General Committee of Agricultural Cooperatives of the EU (Cogeca). European farmers will debate prospects for their products on the world market and how farms and cooperatives could improve income from the internal market in a context of increased competition and reduced support. A “Strasbourg Declaration” will be submitted for approval by the Congress of Farmers. The congress will bring together European farmers, decision-makers, and experts from the field, as well as representatives from the agro-foods industry from throughout the world. Leaders from more than 70 European farming organisations from more than 30 countries will attend to share their views and to discuss future prospects for European agriculture in the world.
