Youth and a Europe of 46

Brussels, 09/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Council of Europe and the Polish minister of education and sport, as well as the European Youth Forum are organising a Youth Summit on Sunday 15 and Monday 16 May in Warsaw. Around a hundred youth organisation leaders from 48 signatory countries to the Cultural Convention (46 Member States of the Council of Europe, as well as Belarus and the Holy See), will (in Polish parliamentary premises, the Sejm) discuss the strengthening of participatory democracy and the preparation by and for the young of the European campaign for promoting diversity. Several well known figures will address the youngsters: former Polish president Lech Walesa, Secretary General for the Council of Europe, Terry Davis and European Commissioner Jan Figel. A declaration presenting the expectations of the youth on Europe will be adopted in the morning of the 16 and sent to the Summit of the Heads of State and Governments of the Council of Europe, which will be held at the same time in the Polish capital.
