Commission to ask Council to lift safeguard measures of five Member States banning GMOs authorised within EU from their territory

Brussels, 27/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the European Commission adopted its proposals to request the Council of the EU to lift the safeguard measures of five Member States (Austria, Germany, France, Greece and Luxembourg), which have banned the importation, processing and growing of certain varieties of genetically modified seeds, even though these are authorised under Community legislation.
