France reacts to risk of transmission of BSE to sheep

Brussels, 19/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - The French government has decided to reinforce measures implemented to detect cases of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in sheep, the Ministry of Agriculture announced on Tuesday. This move, “to preserve public and animal health”, comes further to a study by the French agency for food safety (AFSSA) which “forwards the hypothesis that other cases of BSE could be diagnosed in sheep and goats”, the Ministry states.
