19/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Belgian European Union of Federalists is organising a conference-debate on 26 April in Brussels on the theme of “European Enlargement; Birth of a Giant or End in Sight for European Project. Participants will include Bronislaw Geremek (former Polish foreign affairs minister), Mathieu Grosch, president of the Belgian Senate's external relations committee, François Roelants du Vivier (former MEP), and Franck Biancheri, from the think-tank EUROPE 2020. In a press release, Dietrich Hammer, from the EUF affirmed that, “With the increase in the number of Member States, it has become necessary to introduce more and more federal elements into European construction. If not, the countries that want to go further will soon have no alternative but to set themselves up in limited communities for reinforced cooperation for the Community's internal or external concerns, which would finally lead to a break-up of the Union” (Enrolment: http://www.uef.be/26 April).
