19/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - “By rejecting the Constitution, we are running the risk of losing hope of a better Europe and greater world balance. So I say yes to it! If in any doubt, I would oppose the European dream. Because the Constitution puts the seal on the solidarity of European destinies (…). Because we must continue to be enthusiastic, and keep our promises to the survivors of Buchenwald and the younger generations to build a better world”, said Javier Solana on Monday in a speech to the Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Paris. The enlarged Europe needs a new contract of confidence, and the “six founder countries, including France, have a particular responsibility to help renew the pact”, said their future European foreign minister. He noted that some people “criticise the Constitution because they believe it will sacrifice nations on the altar of European federalism. But some American neo-conservatives are also hostile to the Constitution because they see it as the symbol of Europe's rising power”.
