Eurostat expects EU population rise by 2025, followed by drop, especially in new Member States

Brussels, 08/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - According to statistics gathered by Eurostat, the total population of the EU of 25 is expected to increase by more than 13 million (+2.9%) between January 2004 and January 2025, rising from 456.8 million to 470.1 million. However, the share of the population of working age (between 15 and 64 years old) in the total population is expected to fall dramatically in the EU of 25, going from 67.2% in 2004 to 56.7% in 2050, a drop of 52 million in the number...
