Commission's foreign affairs and human rights sub-committee hearings

Brussels, 24/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - As we previously announced, the European Parliament will be organising a hearing on 30-31 March on Syria, in view of revising the report by Belgian Socialist Véronique De Keyser on the EU/Syria agreement (according to the Parliament, the withdrawal lf all Syrian troops and intelligence services from the Lebanon will have a significant influence on the decision on whether to sign the agreement: EUROPE 8906).

On 30 March, the foreign affairs committee chaired by Elmar Brok (CDU) will listed to a speech by the Syrian Ambassador to the EU, Toufik Salloum and Badi Khattab, who will be taking over from him and who will be speaking on the situation in Syria.

On 31 March, the human rights sub-committee chaired by Hélène Flautre (French, Green) will discuss the human rights situation in Syria with Aktham Naisse, president of the committees for the defence of democratic freedoms and human rights in Syria, as well as will Wahid Al-Asma from the Solida movement.
